Serves 6

1½ cups applesauce

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 cup sour cream

1¼ cup winter squash, peeled, seeded, baked, and mashed

1/2 tsp. nutmeg

3 Tbsp. butter, melted

1 large egg

Topping:

1/2 cup bread crumbs (1 slice bread)

1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

1 Tbsp. butter

Combine applesauce, brown sugar, salt, sour cream, squash, nutmeg and butter; mix well. Beat in egg. Turn into a buttered 1½-quart casserole dish. Prepare topping and sprinkle over top of squash mixture. Bake, uncovered, at 375°F for 35 minutes.
